Emotional Intelligence for Workplace Productivity

Foreword: Emotional Intelligence is defined as a set of competencies demonstrating the ability one has to recognise his or her behaviours, moods, and impulses, and to manage them best according to the situation.

Course description

This course will give you the tools you need to be emotionally intelligent in your workplace. An employee with high emotional intelligence can manage his or her own impulses, communicate with others effectively, manage change well, solve problems, and use humour to build rapport in tense situations. These employees also have empathy, remain optimistic even in the face of adversity, and are gifted at educating and persuading in a sales situation and resolving customer complaints in a customer service role.

On completion, you should be able to -

* Define Emotional Intelligence
  • Learn the four core skills required for emotional intelligence
  • Understand associated verbal and nonverbal communication
  • Be able to explain the Social Management & Responsibility implications
  • Master tools to regulate and gain control of ones own emotions
  • Use the concepts and techniques in the workplace

Delivey strategies

This course will be delivered face to face in a trainer led classroom environment. Delivery strategies will include powerpoint, face to face lecture, scenario analysis, role play etc.


This course has no pre-requisites; however it is suitable for those who are working in a team environment, preferably in a position that comes with responsibily to resolve customer complaints.

About the trainer

Keith Whelan is an expert in Business communication, an area he has developed over the years working with large public and private organisations like NSW Health, Caltex Australia and ADCO advertising. Specialising in grants, tenders and funding consultancy, Keith has also consulted with and taught at a number of universities such as ANU Canberra, University of Adelaide, University of Sydney, UTS, University of Newcastle and Macquarie University and presently works with a number of companies across Australia in developing their respective Corporate Social Responsibility Strategies, Social Enterprise and Social Procurement strategies.
