Essentials of Financial Reporting

About this course

Are you a business manager or working in a supervisor role, with responsibilities to look after and report on the financial activities of your business? Gain the essential skills in preparing and reporting on financial activities such as profit or loss statements, cash flow statement, Business Activity Statements, maintaining general ledger etc. With all the technical skills packed in this course, you can surely add more to your portfolio, taking your performance to the next level. This course has been aligned with the following units of competency from the Business Services training package:

BSBFIA401 Prepare financial reports
BSBFIA412 Report on financial activity

Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a Statement of Attainment from BSB40515 Certificate IV in Business Administration.

This course may be funded by the NSW Government for the eligible candidates.

Course duration

This course will be delivered two days a week 9.30 am to 3 pm (5 hours) over 4 weeks. You are expected to spend approximately 10 hours a week outside the classroom to study the manuals and other relevant learning resources and complete activities aligned with the topics discussed in the class.

Who can do this course?

This course is intended for those who are working in the area of business administration, with responsibilities to maintain financial records, prepare financial reports and report on financial activities. These roles are typical to small enterprises, where a separate accounts department may not be cost friendly and therefore, one person may be responsible for the financial matters.


You can reap the most from this program if you have basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and basic knowledge of ATO requirements related to financial reporting. You also must have strong language, literacy and numeracy skills (LLN) to enrol into this course. If you believe your LLN skills may not be strong enough to attend this program, we have other programs that may be suitable for current skills and knowledge. Please let us know if this is the case.

Delivery strategies

This course will be delivered in a face to face classroom environment by an industry expert. The deliver strategies include but not limited to face to face lecture, demonstration, case study analysis, and research. Delivery of this course will be holistic i.e. elements of competency from different units will be delivered in one lecture to best complement a real life workplace situation.

Assessment strategies

Assessments for this program will include both formative and summative assessments, meaning some activities will be completed during the class and the final part to be produced after the program.
