Introduction to Aged Care

Course Information

An entry level course for people with moderate reading and writing skills, and a passion to seek employment in the Aged Care sector. You will be studying the following units of competency:

FSKDIG001 - Use digital technology for short and basic workplace tasks

FSKWTG006 - Write simple workplace information

FSKRDG010 - Read and respond to routine workplace information

HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid

CHCLEG001 - Work legally and ethically

HLTWHS001 - Participate in workplace health and safety

HLTINF001 - Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures

Enrolling in this course

To make sure that this course is the right one for you, we require all new learners to have an interview with one of our experienced teachers over the phone before the course. In the interview, we will find out your English language level, as well as organise your enrolment for you. An interview can be booked by calling our office on 02 9687 2072.

Duration

The course is face to face and scheduled to run over 3 days per week for 4 weeks. 9.30am – 2.30pm. Delivery days TBA.

Parking

There is plenty of paid parking is available within a short walking distance of our Ross St office. Also busses travel near the college on a regular basis.    

Delivery Strategies

Face to face or blended classroom study led by a qualified and industry experienced trainer or self-paced journey. Participants must attend any practical assessments within a class, if applicable.

For a thorough understanding of the competency requirements and to prepare for the assessments. 5 to 10 hours per week of study is expected. Learning strategies include role play, demonstrations, lectures and classroom activities. All participants will be supported by our qualified and skilled team throughout their learning journey.

Learning strategies

This course will involve  practical activities including workplace scenarios, filling up workplace forms, reading workplace signs and symbols etc. Also basic tasks required in an Aged Care setting. It has been designed for those who wish to take there career to the next level.

What are assessments?

As you progress through your course you will be given small tasks you need to complete at home as part of additional studies, around 5hrs per week. This helps the teacher see what you have learnt. Your assessments could be:

* Written question and answers

* A collection of your work

* Role play

* Case studies

* Observation

Am I eligible to enroll into this course?

This course is for the beginner level learner; however, if you believe you have the necessary skills in any of the units, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and undertake the remaining units.

How long does it take to get a Certificate?

As you progress through courses you will be assessed and if successful you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the completed unit/s at the end of the course.
