This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as beauticians to provide a range of beauty services including nail, waxing, lash and brow, and basic make-up services.
These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and customer service skills where discretion and judgement are required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes client consultation on beauty products and services.
Work is typically conducted in beauty, waxing, brow and nail salons.
The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. After successful completion of our SHB30121 - Certificate III in Beauty Services, you will gain the knowledge and practical skills that will allow you to successfully:
• Engage customers and provide Beauty Services
• Maintain daily store operations and financial transactions
• Apply waxing, tanning and make-up
• Advise on products and services
• Identify and respond to WH&S risks
This qualification will be delivered in a classroom environment by a qualified industry skilled trainer at Western Sydney Skills Hub at North Parramatta. Address – 410 Church St, Level 3, North Parramatta, NSW 2151. Please note that classes may not be available when you are reading this course description, but the college still encourages the potential candidates to register their interest by joining the waiting list (available at the bottom of this page).
You have twelve months to complete this course from the date of commencement. Please let your trainer know if you need more time to complete or for any other support you may require.
Entry Requirements
Whilst there are no entry requirements for this qualification, it is expected that you have adequate language, literacy and numeracy skills and computer skills to be able to interact with peers, trainers and completing assessments using a computer either in the classroom, at home or at your workplace. Moreover, the course covers all aspects of engaging customer, maintaining daily operations, and delivering on customer expectations.
This course includes the following units of competency:
18 units are required to achieve the full qualification, which consists of 14 core unit and 4 elective units.
Delivery Strategies
This course will be delivered in a face-to-face classroom-based environment with a qualified and skilled trainer 3 days per week. Learning strategies include role play, case study, demonstrations, lectures, and classroom activities etc. All participants will be supported by our qualified and skilled team throughout their learning journey.
Assessment Strategies
Assessments for this qualification include both formative and summative assessments which involve a variety of activities including knowledge questions, case studies, presentations, projects, demonstration, observations etc. All participants will be supported by our qualified and skilled team throughout their learning journey.
Resource Requirements
Learner manuals will be provided at no further cost than the course fee. This course requires the use of computer and internet either in the classroom or at the students' home or workplace to research the relevant legislations, industry standards and to develop relevant workplace documents.

How much work is involved in completing the course?
Please note assessments for this course involve significant work both during and after the sessions. 10 to 15 hours of study is expected every week. You will have maximum of two attempts to submit your assessments in each unit of competency. If you are considered Not Yet Competent after the second submission, you may choose to undertake a gap tutorial, which will attract further fee.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
If you believe you already have skills and experience relevant to the competencies of this course, please let the trainer know for a recognition. Please note that applying for RPL may not automatically result in the issuing of the skill set. In case of any gaps found, you will be advised of those gaps and asked to provide further evidence against your RPL claim. If you are still considered Not Yet Competent (NYC), you may be offered a tutorial for those gaps, which will incur further cost.

NSW Government subsidy may be available for eligible participants when enrolling. Please contact the college to assess your eligibility for the subsidised fee.
Competency outcome
On successful completion of all the assessments, you will be awarded with an AQF Certificate from SHB30121 - Certificate III in Beauty Services.

For after hours access press the buzzer located next to the building’s entrance, then the caretaker will buzz you in, then take elevator to Level 3.
Parking: There is street parking available around the Western Sydney Skills Hub. In the nearby area, there is a combination of paid metered parking spots (2 hr/4 hr/10 hr) and free short stay parking (2hr). Unmetered, long stay spots (free to park) are located in streets within a 5-10 minute walk from our venue. Also some closer spots are free after hours, but please note all this is subject to change and is organised by the local council. So please check signs carefully when parking, as length of stay and paid/unpaid parking can vary across the streets and can even depend on the side you park. Therefore if in doubt check with Parramatta council.
Public Transport
Trains: Depending on your walking speed our venue is around a 10-15 minute walk from Parramatta Train Station.
Buses: There are a variety of buses operating in the Parramatta and North Parramatta area, including the council run FREE Parramatta Shuttle Bus, but as this route has been subject to change in the past, please check with Parramatta City Council for the latest route details and timetable.
