Sign Language 2
The Deaf Society runs classes regularly in Parramatta. All enrolments to be made directly with The Deaf Society ph: 02 8833 3600 or enrol online at their site.
Sign Language 2 continues the unique and fun experience of learning how to communicate visually using Auslan (Australian sign language), the native language of the Australian Deaf Community.
By the end of Sign Language 2, students will be able to
- Talk in more detail about holidays, countries, the weather and the seasons
- Talk about everyday life including work and family
- Talk about hobbies, interests and other activities
- Ask for and provide directions
- Use non-manual features to express yourself
- Use more advanced visual-gestural communication strategies
Sign Language 2 is the recommended next step for people who have completed Sign Language 1 and would like to continue their Auslan studies.
With further study and qualifications, students will be able to pursue employment working with deaf people and/or other Auslan users, e.g. in education, childcare, disability services or as an Auslan/English interpreter.
Following on from Sign Language 1, Sign Language 2 provides a pathway into studying nationally-recognised accredited Auslan courses, i.e. Certificate II, III and IV in Auslan, the Diploma of Auslan, and the Diploma of Auslan/English interpreting.
Your Sign Language 2 trainer is deaf. Please remember to ‘voice off’ in class.
Sign Language 1 or Sign Online are assumed knowledge for students enrolling in Sign Language 2.
