The teaching qualifications you need to teach at TAFE, Community Colleges and other Vocational type colleges
h1. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (“TAE”)
To be eligible to teach accredited courses within Vocational Education facilities, such as TAFEs, Community Colleges and many other Vocational Education Training facilities, (also known as the VET sector) at a minimum it is mandatory for trainers/tutors/teachers to have the latest Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent before they are eligible to teach.
Please note that you will also need some relevant industry experience or skills in the subject area that you wish to teach in, and that requirement will vary from college to college and is beyond the scope of this article. You will also need to keep your industry skills in your vocational area up to date. Note also that if you wish to teach at a school or university they have different qualification requirements for their teachers.
Also please note to teach non accredited courses (such as leisure and lifestyle type courses) it may not be a requirement to have the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, though it may be viewed as desirable to hold this qualification, depending on the training facility.
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is often referred to as the “TAE” for short, this is because part of the unit number is TAE.
The current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment unit code is TAE40116. It replaced the TAE40110.
If you have previously completed the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment you need to check which “TAE” version you have because as of 1st July 2019 to teach accredited courses in the VET sector it will be mandatory to either hold the:
- TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- OR if you already have the TAE40110 you only need to successfully complete two units (TAELLN411 & TAEASS502) to continue to teach accredited courses in the VET sector.
Good news! If you already have the TAE40110 Parramatta is currently running the two units you need to continue to keep teaching VET accredited courses:
"TAELLN411 - Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills (please click here, or see below for information on this unit)":/course/LLNS.
"TAEASS502 - Design and Develop Assessment Tools (please click here, or see below for information on this unit)":/course/DDA.
Furthermore if you enrol in both units we will give you a $50 discount*!
*To qualify for the $50 discount you must enroll in both units. Not to be used with any other offer and not redeemable for cash. To receive the discount you must call us on 02 9687 2072.
