Christine McKenna

Christine McKenna has been dressmaking for clients for over 40 years and in that time has made everything from fur animal suits to outfits for entire bridal parties. Christine switched to making theatrical costume in 1994 and has worked on major theatrical productions and for Opera Australia. Her qualifications in dressmaking include Advanced Certificate in Custom Clothing 1996 for which Christine was awarded first place in the state, and the Fashion Retail Certificate 1991-1992 which covered many aspects of design, pattern making, assembly and production of clothing and headwear.
Most recently she has been tutoring HSC Textile Design students, making historic reproduction clothing for historic house museums and sewing complete wardrobes for professional entertainers. Christine is also a children’s tutor with the Embroiderers' Guild NSW and is Convenor of the junior stitchers group.
Therefore Christine has a working knowledge of many handcrafts and nearly 20 years' experience teaching beginners and children in craft and dressmaking. She is patient with beginners and will help them gain the confidence and see that with practise and persistence they can achieve good results. She also enjoys building on students' existing knowledge and enthusing them to experiment further in the future.
